My name's Em, 19 and studying nursing in Newcastle, Australia. I've posted here before and will probably post again soon when I get a better camera, new wardrobe and hopefully a better carpet.

Hello all! I'll be making a PROPER post here soon, but in the mean time, I have a question...
Where are your favorite places to get comforter covers?

I've tried Ikea, eBay & Target and I'm not wowed.
Any suggestions? I'd prefer to not spend over $80

I love damask, retro florals, bold design and anything that isn't too kiddy looking :D

Sort of like the things on Brocade Home, only, you know, not 200 bucks.
PS- I have a Full bed. Queen sized is definitely do-able

Today I got notified that I will be starting at a school for media design in November. As you can see I presently don't have a desk, seeing as I haven't been attending any school for over a year. I don't really want to rearrange my room again as I really love it the way it looks now. Does anyone have an idea where I could put a desk or can think of an alternative that doesn't take up a lot of space? I just basically need a proper place, that is not my piano or bed, where I can sit with my laptop and design. Thanks in advance.

So, I was wondering. I'm moving into a new room, and I want to decorate it in a sort of classic carnival theme. And when I say classic, I mean late 1800s/early 1900s carnivals. Any suggestions on decor, color themes, lighting, etc? Thaaanks in advance!

This is bound to be old news for a lot of you, but this was a sewing revelation for me – It is much easier to make something when you can trace some clothes that you already own. If this is what sewing with a pattern is like, I've seriously been missing out.

I've read plenty of posts where people say they traced a pair of shorts or they used a tank top as a pattern for a new tank top, but I never really understood how you could use other clothes as a pattern without taking it apart. But then when I was making this shirt, I decided to trace the basic body shape of another button up and it saved me a ton of pin and fitting time. Typically I would have put the giant shirt on inside-out and stood in front of the mirror and pinned and pulled in and pinned and pulled in and pinned... Then to make the sleeves, I just roughly traced some cap sleeves off of another shirt. I would normally have started with a tube and shaped it from there, which takes forever and pinning on your own arm is a pain. I still had to work out some issues with these, but it was much easier and faster.

Total, this took me about 5 hours which I find amazing. It also helped that I got the curved hem right on the first shot.

So I just moved into a new apartment and its kind of a pit. My roommate and I are okay with this because we have cheap rent in a really really great location.

The problems mostly lie in the bathroom.
We have a clawfoot tub.
There are no shelves, no hooks...nothing.
The shower curtain (aka 2 liners strategically placed) does not allow for hooks or shelves near or in the shower for us to put our shower things on.
Not to mention the curtain attempts to smother you to death every time you take a shower.

The floor has sever water damage, and my guess is that previous tenants just didn't put the shower curtain in the tub when showering, but I really don't want to make the floor worse.

So, does anyone have any advice or helpful tips?

I love seeing everyone's beautiful rooms, and after a bout of very serious cleaning, I'm happy enough to share my room with everybody.
(careful, there are 18 not so tiny images after the cut!)

My guinea pigs, Kenny and Alphie, would like to invite you in.

I need some help.  I work for an event that is sponsored by a boxer company, and we have to wear these boxers tomorrow.  We just got the outfits in the office today.  Well, I'm 5.5 months pregnant, and I put the boxers on, and I either look like a gangster if they are under my stomach, or I look like humpty dumpty if I pull them over my stomach. I can't have the band around my stomach because it hurts (a lot).

How can I alter boxer shorts so that they look somewhat stylish?

I need the crotch intact because we have to wear suspenders and I don't want the boxers pulled over my head (although I look so terrible in them, I guess I wouldn't mind my face covered!)

Anyway, I know they aren't t-shirts, but they are t-shirt material, and you guys are artistic geniuses.

I hope this is allowed. the blue owl's eyes are made of one of my husband's old workshirts. If not I can delete it.

I was real proud of these guys. I haven't unpacked my good camera yet so these pictures are from my husband's phone.

I'm Emma, 19 from the UK. I live in Kent sometimes and London most of the time for University, where I am studying Biochemistry with Forensic Science. After nearly a year of decorating, I've finally finished my bedroom at my parents' house in Kent. There are a couple of finishing touches that still need to be done but overall it's finished and I am so pleased. I have literally been in the proceeds of doing it since this time last year because I spend so much time living elsewhere whilst I'm studying and that is a long time. There are a lot of photographs under the cut.

Hey everyone. I am in dire need of advice. I'm getting a corset piercing on my back sometime in the next couple of weeks and I need to wear a shirt that doesn't have a back to it. Of course I have scoured the stores for something that would work and have not found anything. My piercer suggested that I cut up a t shirt to make it work but I have yet to find a satisfactory technique to do this. All the tutorials I've found require ties that go across the back. If anyone could suggest a way of going this I'd be forever grateful. Thanks!

i have a question for you guys-
so i live in downtown charleston. i moved to this apartment in january and the first floor of the building is two restaurants. one of them closed right after i moved in and they are putting a new one in its place and it is SO LOUD every single morning. my bedroom window looks out onto the street and it is right above where they are working. i am a night owl; i literally cannot fall asleep until one or two am and i have to be at work at ten thirty every morning so ideally i sleep until 945 or so but they keep waking me up at like seven every morning. my rent is not cheap and i am considering complaining to my landlord and trying to get a rent break. is this realistic? i hate to be a pain but seriously, when i was a freshman in college they started building right next to my dorm and the pile-driving woke me up every morning like this for six months and it was so irritating that i never wanted to live near a construction site again if i could help it. if i had known this was going to happen i would have seriously rethought moving into this apartment. part of me keeps saying it's only temporary, just deal with it but like i said, my rent is not cheap and this sucks. thanks for your help!

I've made up a list of things I'm going to need to pack/buy for my dorm room in the fall, and I want your opinions on it - it's basically a collective list from advice I've found everywhere (here on lj, websites etc). Let me know if you think some of the things I have shouldn't be on the list, or if I'm missing something.
P.S. This isn't clothing, school supplies, food, personal items or anything, just basic dorm room stuff - furniture and bedding and stuff.

I went from having a 10x10 room to having the entire upstairs of our house. The room is done completely in knotty pine and is referred to affectionately as the creepy wooden death box.
